Today in New York City Weather History: June 11

1911 (Sunday)

This is the only year in which an inch or more of rain has fallen on 6/11 (0.99" would fall in 1991).  The amount reported at Central Park was 1.14" and followed a rainfall of 1.00" yesterday (and 0.90" would fall tomorrow). Almost all of today's rain (an inch) fell between 11 PM and midnight.  (And all of yesterday's fell between 10 PM and midnight).

1916 (Sunday)

This was the third day of the past four with a high of 57°.  All four days were overcast, with light winds out of the northeast.  (The typical temperature during the second week of June is in the upper 70s.)

1920 (Friday)

Today's high of 94°, the first reading in the 90s of the year, came the day after the low was 55°.

1972 (Sunday)

This morning's low of 46° was a record, and the chilliest reading in June since 1945.

1991 (Tuesday)

After a high of 90°, rain moved in after 5 PM, and by 1 AM 0.99" had fallen - the first rain on this date in 12 years.  The rain came down heaviest between 9-10 PM, when 0.43" fell.  Today was also the 20th day in the past two months with a high temperature of 85° or warmer.

2000 (Sunday)

Today's high of 92° was the sixth 90-degree day so far this year.  However, there would be just one more hot day for the rest of the summer (Aug. 9).  Only six other years have had their sixth 90-degree reading by this date (none since 2000) - but all of them had many more hot days in the following months.

2005 (Saturday)

During an evening thunderstorm, 0.44" of rain poured down between 7-8 PM.  It was also a warm and very humid day, with a high/low of 85°/71° (eight degrees above average); during the afternoon the dew point peaked at 75°.

2017 (Sunday)

Today was the year's fourth day in the 90s, the most by this date since 2008.  This was the twenty-first year (since 1872) to have four 90-degree days by this date (about once every seven years).  .

2024 (Tuesday)

Today's low of 59° would be the month's chilliest temperature, the mildest reading to have this designation in June.  This broke a long-standing record from 1892 (and in five other Junes), whose chilliest low was 58°.
