After a a low of 59° the high jumped to 90°, making this the sixth consecutive May with a high in the 90s, the longest such streak for the month of May.
1963 (Friday)
New York's latest date for a low temperature in the 30s occurred today. The low of 39°, which occurred shortly before daybreak, was 17 degrees below average. Under clear skies the temperature rebounded to 64°, but that was still eight degrees below average.
1972 (Wednesday)
Today's high of 86° was the warmest reading of the month, the same temperature as April's warmest reading (on 4/19).
1975 (Saturday)
Today's high of 93° (the Saturday or Memorial Day Weekend) was the first reading in the 90s this year. However, the heat was short lived as a cold front moved through during the evening, dropping the temperature into the upper 50s by the following afternoon.
1983 (Tuesday)
Low temperatures over the past four days exhibited the following pattern: 59°-58°-59°-58° (today), three degrees above average.
1989 (Wednesday)
0.70" of rain fell this morning, bringing the month's total rainfall to more than ten inches. This amount pushed it past May 1984 to make this the rainiest May on record (a record that still stands). An additional 0.21" of rain would fall before the end of the month.
1992 (Sunday)
One day after a high of 92°, which was the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, a cold front moved through mid-afternoon and the temperature dropped sharply, from 82° to 45°. (Somewhat similar to what happened during Memorial Day weekend in 1975.)
1999 (Monday)
1.22" of rain fell in the three hours between noon and 3 PM.
2012 (Thursday)
It was a showery day, with nearly an inch of rain falling in the rain gauge at Central Park. One particularly heavy shower produced 1/2 inch of rain in 1/2 hour during the morning (11:23-11:53 AM).




2022 (Tuesday)
ReplyDeleteToday's conditions were nearly identical to last year. Skies were overcast and the high/low was 67°/57°, a bit lower than last year's 68°/59°.
2025 (Saturday)
Today's high and low temperatures (64°/48°) were 20 degrees chillier than last year. Today also had the fifth consecutive, and season's last reading in the 40s until 10/9.
