1974 (Friday)
For the fifth year in a row rain fell on this date. This year's rainfall amounted to 0.51" and fell during two afternoon thunderstorms.
1987 (Sunday)
Today was Father's Day, and an early morning thunderstorm dumped 1.03" of rain between 4:00 and 5:00 AM. Within that hour 0.60" fell in a 15-minute period between 4:18-4:33 AM. The daylight hours remained overcast, keeping the temperature nearly 20 degrees cooler than yesterday's torrid 96°. This was the third year of the past four in which Father's Day had a cooler high than Mother's Day (this year the high was 12 degrees cooler, 78° vs. 90°).
1988 (Tuesday)
The high today was a blistering 97°, a record for the date. This was the first reading in the 90s on this date since 1966 (which was the third year in a row with a high in the 90s).
1997 (Saturday)
Today's high of 90° was the first reading in the 90s this year, more than three weeks later than the typical date for this occurrence - and the latest date for this occurrence since 1985. This would also be the first of five 90-degree days thru June 29.
2003 (Saturday)
Periods of heavy rain amounted to 1.19". Today's rainfall brought the month's total to 9.89", passing 1972 as the wettest June on record.
2012 (Thursday)
Under sunny skies the high reached 94° for a second day in a row. The morning low was an uncomfortable 79°, just the third time since 1960 (thru 2024) that a low temperature in June was this warm. The other instances were on June 26, 2003 and June 10, 1984.
2015 (Sunday)
The significant rain that had been predicted from the remnants of tropical storm Bill didn't materialize as just about a third-of-an-inch fell overnight (1.50" had been forecast). However, because this storm was a dud, Father's Day turned out to be nice and summery, with temperatures in the upper 80s under partly cloudy skies. Then a quick downpour between 6:00-6:20 PM dumped about as much rain as what fell in the wee hours of the morning.
