After a low of 57° the high jumped to 90°, a record for the date. This was the first 90-degree day of the year, about three weeks earlier than average; thirty-one more would follow (most of them in July and August).

This was the fifth day in a row with highs in the summer-like 80s (average high in the first week of May is in the upper 60s). This streak was book-ended by highs of 78° on 4/30 and 5/6.
2017 (Friday)
Torrential rain poured down in the middle of the day, with 2.72" falling between 11 AM and 2 PM. Overall, 3.02" fell during the course of the day, easily breaking the old record for the date (1922's 1.24"). This was the biggest rainfall in three years (since 4.97" fell on April 30, 2014), and the fifth greatest daily rainfall in May (tied with May 8, 2013).

It was a rainy and chilly day, with 1.31" measured and PM temperatures stuck in the chilly low 50s (most of the rain fell in the morning and after dark). This was the tenth day of the past eleven with measurable rain, a period in which 2.67" of rain fell (today, the rainiest of these days, accounted for nearly half of the total). It was also the twenty-second day of the past thirty-one with measurable rain (today was the rainiest of these days).
May 5, 2024 had similar conditions to 2019. Chilly temperatures and rain (but 2024 had less, at 0.31"). Both years saw a high of 74° the next day.
