1934 (Friday)
Today was very cold even by the standards of mid-winter as the high/low was only 25°/13°. Skies became overcast after sunrise, which kept the temperature from rebounding much. These readings were in the midst of a 40-hour stretch in which the temperature stayed below freezing. This cold day came five days after the high was 71°.
1938 (Wednesday)
Three weeks after a low of 9°, today and the previous two days had highs in the mid-70s: 75°-77°-74° (today) - twenty-five degrees above average.
1991 (Saturday)
The day was raw and drizzly, with just two degrees separating the day's high (40°) and low (38°).
2005 (Wednesday)
It was a wet and windy day, with rain that began late in the morning ending late in the evening as the season's last snowfall. (It was also the first time in 12 years that precipitation fell on this date.) An inch of snow fell, bringing the winter's snowfall to 41 inches. This was the unprecedented third winter in a row with more than 40 inches (and the following winter would also have 40 inches).
2012 (Friday)
Today's high was a record-tying 76°, the eighth day of the past sixteen with a high in the 70s. During these sixteen days temperatures were nearly fifteen degrees above average. The high/low during this period of 66°/48° was more typical of late April.
2015 (Monday)
Clear and cold, with a high/low of 38°/23°, which was 14 degrees below average. This was the coldest mean temperature after the spring equinox since March 22, 2004 (36°/24°) and March 22, 2002 (33°/22°).
2024 (Saturday)
A record amount of rain fell. Beginning shortly before sunrise and continuing thru late afternoon, 3.66" was measured in Central Park, more than twice as much as the previous record amount for the date (1.60" in 1929). At its heaviest, two inches of rain poured down in the three hours between 1 PM and 4 PM.
This was the fourth day this month to receive more than an inch of rain. The amount was the most from a March rainstorm since 2010, when there were two that each produced a little more than four inches. (March 2010 is the wettest March on record). Today's rainfall moved March 2024 into the top 10 wettest Marches (#6).
