Looking at Lengthy Streaks With High Temperatures Colder Than 40 Degrees

It may not be the most "sexy" of weather stats, but the winter of 2026 saw Central Park experience its longest streak of days with highs colder than 40° since 2004. Beginning on 1/23 and continuing thru 2/10, the average high/low during these 19 days was 27°/14°, thirteen degrees below average.  This was the tenth streak of 14 days or longer in the years since 2000 (the longest being 21 days).  And it was the second coldest of these streaks.

Looking at all years since 1869, there have been 53 winters with a streak of at least 14 days or longer. Ten winters had two of them (most recently in the winter of 2003).  The longest of them all occurred in 1945, lasting 35 days.
